Main Campus and how to get there
Map of CTU campuses
The main Dejvice Campus is located in the north-western part of the town close to Dejvická metro station. Technická street goes through the middle of the campus.
Directions from the airport to the main Dejvice campus
Prague’s RUZYNĚ Airport is located 15 km west of the city centre. There are banks and ATMs for getting Czech cash (daily 7:00 – 23:00), pharmacy and a convenient Billa supermarket, etc. Nearly all exchange offices at the airport give a poor rate of exchange. You can make your way from the airport to the main Dejvice campus by city bus which is recommended. Taxis are available of course.
A cheap and very effective way of getting to the main CTU campus is by city bus no. 119, which brings passengers from the airport to Nádraží Veleslavín metro station. The bus ticket costs only CZK 24. Buy it in advance, from a booth or from the yellow ticket machine, and frank it when you get on the bus. The service is very frequent, and the travel time to the main Dejvice campus is less than 30 minutes. The 119 bus terminates at Nádraží Veleslavín metro station. Take the metro to Dejvická, or if you are heading for Masarykova dorm, take tram 20 or 26 to Thákurova tram stop which is adjacent to dormitory.
There is also a direct bus service from the airport to the Strahov dormitories. It is not very frequent, but very cheap and convenient if you have heavy baggage.
Directions from railway stations to main Dejvice campus
Passengers travelling to Prague by train usually arrive at Hlavní nádraží (Main Station). It is on line C of the metro system and offers a number of services, including money exchange and a luggage-storage area. The main Dejvice campus is located near Dejvická metro station. You take the metro to Muzeum station and there you can transfer to line A (green). Dejvická is the fifth stop on line A.
Best time to arrive
In order to avoid inconveniences for everyone involved it is strongly recommended that you try to book your ticket to arrive on a weekday during regular office hours of 8:00 to 16:00. If you unavoidably arrive during the weekend or late in the evening, you will have difficulty finding any university staff. If you arrive by train, please specify which station, and remain on the platform until you are met (it is difficult to locate you after you have left the platform). Try to avoid arriving at an anti-social time. If the rendez-vous is unsuccessful, phone your contact person or the international office: 22435 3466 (22435 3467, 22435 3465). If all else fails, you will find reasonably priced accommodation at offices at the main railway station (Hlavní nádraží). The left luggage office at the main station is also a safe and inexpensive place to leave your luggage.
The International Office, with the International Students Club, organises an orientation week that is held during the week before classes begin. During this week you will register for classes, get your timetable of classes, settle accommodation matters, arrange your city transport pass and meal tickets, sign up for sports activities, get an e-mail account, and register with the university libraries. You will also be informed about CTU, life in Prague and the Czech Republic, and Prague’s transportation system. You will be accompanied around the main campus and around Prague. Orientation Week also includes a range of excursions and other events to help international students to get to know each other and the country that they are going to live in.
